Bias?!?!?!?!

Is it true that people all around us think with a bias and not how we are as individuals? Also do we expect this from our news reporters? Yes we all know the and are guilty of looking at people with tatoos weird hair differently because of how they look. When in actuality they could be just like me and you. The answer to the second question is No. We should not expect this from people who are suppling our knowledge, but we know that this happens. Can we change it? Yea if we wanted to stop believing the news and not watching t.v. but is that real. Also if we look at public funded institutions like PBS or NPR we see that they are neutral yes not as interesting but are informative. this brings me to my next point to we want to be informed or entertained? i would say informed. but that is just how i am . more on this later. comment if you have any ideas for solutions!!!!

Media

This past week in class we have been discussing the bias in the media. I.e. whether it is liberal or conservative. The group that i was in focused on the magazine portion in the news. i read the Atlantic, Harpers, and the New Yorker. iI found that they all had a slight liberal lean to them. It is also found out that the Media is liberal and neutral . Basically if the two words are combined then that is where our media is. as for the conservative stand point they are in the far right with magazines like the Weekly Standard. more next time.

Lazy

I am pretty much a week behind and I forgot because I am lazy. I just really forgot. Today i am posting for last week. i was watching the Vice President debates and then I like every other American whose only watches half of the debate listens to the news in the morning. well that is what i did and let me just say something, I am really tried of hearing about Palin as some kind of bad mom, sex symbol, and being the saint from all saints. i believe that neither candidate has put a clear effective plan together on health care and economics. the only reall good thing i have heard is that They want ro stop giving money to countries that dont support our view points. we needed to stopo this years ago. As for health care i do not believe we should be on our own that governemnt that we pay into shoudl help out, but i disagree with putting a cap on costs for the medical professionals like they do in Canada. NOw that i am off my soap box for the day i will have more comments at the end of the week.

Host

This week in English class we are reading "Host"by David Foster Wallace. I like this reading because not only are you reading one story but another one. I guess it is like killing two birds with one stone. It sounds really cofusing but.... once you get the hang of how the narrator is telling the story you realize that he is not only helpful but quite entertaining. Okay what i mean by all of this is even though th reading looks really confusing with all the wierd boxes and such. It is totally worth it for what is underlying underneath all of the text. I also like this reading because I believe that repoting news as become a way of watching a live entertainment show and that is not the point. so in this reading Wallace really gives you that opinion in i guess a "semi editorial" manner. More thoughts as more analyzing occurs.

bartleby

All of this week we have been talking about this crazy guy named Bartleby. Basically this is a story about a law copier. The cool thing we talked about was how he could be related to real life. by the way this is a short story by Herman Melville. I recommend that all of you read this reading and see if what you think about what is going on. This is because he has this clever man who in the time of the industrial revolution goes against the system of a,if you will, a machine. So when he gets hired into this new place he works really hard and then starts slacking off and says his famous line,"i would prefer not to". This is really weird because if we were to do this to our managers today we wouldn't have a job. More thoughts next week.
